Autumn Term 2

Now we are settled into year 3 and 4, I am very much looking forward to the exciting challenges that this half term will bring.

Our new class text is The Iron Man, which has been described as one of the greatest modern fairy tales. It starts with the clanking iron giant toppling from a cliff and lying smashed on the rocks below.

This text links to our English units where we will be learning how to write formal letters, using the Iron man story as a stimulus, Haiku poems and instructions. We will link our instruction writing to our very exciting Design and Technology project.

Our Christian value for this half term is trust and we will focus on this during our class worship sessions, alongside our Religious Education (RE) topic, which will involve learning about Sikhism.  Our Jigsaw lessons will concentrate on celebrating differences, teaching the children about a range of different cultures and values.

We have a very exciting Cornerstones unit based on Pneumatics.  This Design and Technology unit will teach the children about pneumatics and how we can use air to create movement.  Our unit will be completed with the children designing and making their own Iron Man - using pneumatics.

Maths focuses in greater detail on place value and the four operations. Please encourage your children to use Times Table Rockstars regularly, as rapid recall of times table knowledge, supports their learning in the classroom.

Physical Education (PE) will focus on Dance and Hockey. These lessons will continue to take place on a Tuesday and Wednesday so children need to wear PE kit to school on these days.

In our French lessons we will be covering the topic: All about me. Our weekly MFL sessions will focus on numbers and letters.

We will end the year getting ready for Christmas with a virtual Christmas production. This will be performed in school and recorded for you to watch along with your children at home.

Thank you for your continued support.  We very much appreciate all the at home reading, spelling practise and your efforts in supporting the children with their homework - Thank you.
