Spring Term 2 6J
Our Christian value for this half term is Thankfulness, which we will be learning about in our class worship sessions alongside the RE topic ‘What difference does the resurrection make for Christians?’ where we will consider concepts such as: forgiveness, sacrifice, hope, sin and salvation.
Our Love 2 Read text will be Call of the Wild by Jack London, a captivating novel: Jack London's classic story from 1903 about Buck, a dog kidnapped from his home in California and taken to the Yukon where he is mistreated until a prospector discovers him and relates to his situation. Although the two are bonded, Buck yearns to run free with the wild dogs in the wilderness.
In English, we will start with the suspense genre, challenging the children to write using tension using the Alma and Francis Brandywine clips as immersive hooks. We will then move onto our persuasive writing - the children are asked to consider the way in which animals are treated at two different Aquatic parks and from there they will write persuasive arguments for and against the parks depending on their findings.
This half term in maths, there will be a focus on reasoning and arithmetic woven throughout the lessons, whilst we investigate topics such as: time, shape, algebra, BODMAS and timetables. This will all help to build the children’s confidence, boosting them with targeted learning ensuring that they feel ready to sit their SATS in May (which take place Monday 13th - Thursday 16th)
In science, we continue with our Living things and their habitats to include Humans. Personal, Health, Social, Economic and Emotional lessons (PHSEE), will focus on Healthy Me with physical and emotional health being at the forefront, considering strategies that we can use to help keep us health in these areas.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday this half-term. Indoor will take place on a Friday (types of training) and outdoor (Orienteering) on a Wednesday - please send the children in on these days in appropriate kit following the school uniform policy. All those children with long hair should wear it up off their faces please.
The children will continue to be set homework each Friday with the expectation it is handed in for marking the following Friday. Each week, the children should be completing four ‘at home’ reads, which should be recorded in their reading diaries. Each Friday they are set new spellings and then tested each Friday in school. We would like to thank you for your continued support. We are thoroughly enjoying working with the children and look forward to what the next half term brings.
