Summer Term 2
Our Christian value for this half term is courage, which we will be learning about in worship and our class worship sessions alongside the RE topic ‘What will make our community a more respectful place?’
Our new class text is ‘Holes’, Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention centre, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep! The children’s English lessons will be focussed on letter writing and developing their figurative language skills and moving the action on within character and setting descriptions.
Our foundation subject focuses this half term on music, using a unit called ‘Music of Mexico’. In the first week, the children will be immersed into their unit of work with a memorable experience ‘Music Heroes’ concert to be held in the hall. Following on from that, here in year 6, we will host a Mexican fiesta with music and food and the children will learn about and compare traditional Mexican music against traditional English music. Both 6J and 6S will be taking part in Forest School sessions during this half term too, permission slips will be sent home with a kit list hat will need to come in with the children each week (this will be old clothes and shoes).
In our maths work this half term, we will be focussing on problem solving and time, really enhancing the children’s skills across all areas of maths in preparation for secondary school.
In PE we have a focus on Athletics in preparation for sports week, where we will be hosting many exciting sporting opportunities alongside a healthy eating week.
Our French studies will focus on preparing the children for secondary school lessons.
Of course, we will be ending the year in style with prom, our school performance ‘School Daze’, a Graduation ceremony and a moving on ceremony. We can’t wait to invite you in to share these special moments with your child 😊
Thank you for your continued support. We have been especially appreciative of all the reading at home and your efforts in supporting the children throughout SATS - Thank you 😊
