Autumn 2

Now we are settled into year 6, I am very much looking forward to the exciting challenges that this half term will bring.

Our Christian value for this half term is trust - we will focus on this throughout class worship alongside our Religious Education (RE) topic, which will involve learning about the Sikh Khalsa.  Our Jigsaw lessons will concentrate on celebrating differences, teaching the children about a range of different cultures and values.

Our new class text is Northern Lights, a fantasy adventure story:

Lyra and her animal daemon live a carefree life amongst the scholars of Jordan College, Oxford. Yet the destiny that awaits her will take her far from her home to the magical frozen lands of the Arctic, amongst the witch-clans and ice-bears. Here, she will discover the truth about her identity, which will have immeasurable consequences reaching beyond her own world.

This text links to our English units where we will be learning how to write an effective explanation text along with descriptive writing using Titanium (visual media) as a stimulus.

I am especially excited to teach our Cornerstones unit, Cam Creations.  This Design and Technology unit will teach the children about cams and how they support movement, the children will end the unit by designing and making their own moving toy - using Christmas as an inspiration.

Maths focuses in greater detail on the four operations, fractions and geometry.

Physical Education (PE) will focus on Gym and Hockey.

In our French lessons we will be covering the topic: Let’s go shopping alongside letters and numbers.

We hope to end the year on a high with a virtual Christmas production, that will be performed in school and recorded for you to watch along with your children at home.

Thank you for your continued support.  We have been especially appreciative of all the at home reading and your efforts in supporting the children with their homework - Thank you 😊
