Our Christian value for this half term is FRIENDSHIP - we will focus on this throughout class worship alongside our Religious Education (RE) topic, which will involve learning about the Sikh Khalsa.  Our Jigsaw lessons will concentrate on Celebrating Differences, teaching the children about a range of different cultures and values.

Our new class text is Northern Lights, a fantasy adventure story: 

Lyra and her animal daemon live a carefree life amongst the scholars of Jordan College, Oxford. Yet the destiny that awaits her will take her far from her home to the magical frozen lands of the Arctic, amongst the witch-clans and ice-bears. Here, she will discover the truth about her identity, which will have immeasurable consequences reaching beyond her own world. 

We will continue to be setting weekend reads so please ensure your child reads their copy of their Northern Lights book over the weekend.  Each week, we will share with the children the pages that have been set and will share this on Class Dojo too.  

English: 

This text links to our English units where we will be learning how to write an effective explanation text along with descriptive writing using Titanium (visual media) as a stimulus. We will build on the children’s prior knowledge whilst working on their sentence structures and using a range of advance punctation.  

Maths:  

Maths focuses in greater detail on the four operations.  This half term, fractions will be unpicked with a real focus on simplifying, adding and subtraction fractions.  Our Friday Maths lessons will continue to focus on their arithmetic skills.  

Design Technology:  

This half term, our topic sessions will be based on DT with our topic being called: Cam Creations.  This DT unit will teach the children about cams and how they support movement; they will end the unit by designing and making their very own moving toy - using Christmas as an inspiration. 

Physical Education (PE): 

Monday will be our outdoor PE slot which is Hockey. 

Friday will be our indoor PE slot which is Dance.  

This half term, we have started warming up our lessons which will be either running on the track or skipping using countable skipping ropes.   

French:  

In our French lessons we will be covering the topic: Let’s go shopping alongside letters and numbers.
