Summer Term 2
Our Christian value for this half term is Truthfulness, which we will be learning about in our class worship sessions alongside the RE topic ‘Community’. Mrs Landa will talk to the children about Sikh traditions and places of worship within our local community.
Our new class text is ‘Holes’, Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention centre, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep! The children’s English lessons will be focussed on letter writing and developing their figurative language skills with a setting description.
Our foundation subject focus this half term, will be a music unit called Hola Mexico. On the first day back, the children will be immersed into their unit of work with a music heroes’ concert to be held in the hall. Following on from that, here in year 6, we will host a Mexican fiesta with music and food and the children will learn about and compare traditional Mexican music against traditional English music. Both 6J and 6S will also be taking part in Ukulele lessons on a Friday afternoon.
In our maths work this half term, we will be focussing on problem solving and time, really enhancing the children’s skills across all areas of maths in preparation for secondary school. In PE we have a focus on Athletics and swimming (please could you remember to send their swimming kit on a Wednesday morning!) Our French studies will focus on preparing the children for secondary school lessons.
6J will be undertaking forest schools on a Monday afternoon, the children must bring the correct outside wear (you can find that on the letter) in order to take part.
Of course, we will be ending the year in style with prom, our school performance ‘School Daze’, a Graduation ceremony and a moving on ceremony. We can’t wait to invite you in to share these special moments with your child 😊
Thank you for your continued support. We have been especially appreciative of all the reading at home and your efforts in supporting the children throughout SATS - Thank you 😊
