Pupil Premium Explained

Pupil Premium funding is additional to main school funding that addresses differences between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers. In most cases, the Pupil Premium is allocated annually to schools and is identifiable in the support provided throughout the year. The school decides how the Pupil Premium allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent. The impact of this support is analysed every term by Senior Leaders and Governors of the school. This information is published on line (please see the PPG strategy). The PPG strategy outlines how the funding has been allocated to help best meet the changing needs of our pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding, and the successes and areas for development that will be addressed during the following term. For pupils from low-income families, it is for the local authority to decide how to allocate the Pupil Premium. For instance, it could be allocated to the setting where they are being educated, or held by the local authority to spend specifically on additional educational support to raise the standard of attainment for these pupils. The authority also provides schools with information about strategies and interventions which can improve the progress and attainment of pupils from poorer backgrounds.

Key facts

The Pupil Premium funding is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for FSM, children who have been looked after (or children in care), continuously for more than six months and children whose parent/s work in the forces. The amount of money allocated to the different groups of Pupil Premium children differs. Most pupils at Wrockwardine Wood CE Junior School eligible for Pupil Premium funding have been allocated £1480 as they are identified as FSM. Pupils from forces families are allocated £300 and those who are looked after or previously looked after receive £2345.

Every school has a senior leader who is responsible for over-seeing Pupil Premium. Wrockwardine Woods PPG Lead  is Mrs Williams.
